You Don't Hate Your Government Enough
When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans I was nine years old. As I saw the difficulty and suffering the victims were facing I begged my dad to drive us down there to help. I dreamed of cutting up fallen trees with a chain saw and piloting a boat in the floodwaters to find people trapped on their roofs. I never got to live out that dream and couldn’t understand why my dad wouldn’t take me down there. It felt illogical to me. People were in need and even at that young age I felt a sense of duty to help my fellow Americans.
